Who we are

Johns Hopkins Health and Education in South Africa (JHHESA) is a non profit organisation that aims to improve the health and well-being of all South Africans particularly on HIV prevention, care and support.

In achieving its broader objective, JHHESA uses a strategic evidence based communication approach which includes dynamic mass media and interpersonal communication initiatives.

Our communication strategies are designed to support the targets of South Africa’s HIV and AIDS and STI National Strategic Plan.

JHHESA is affiliated to the internationally acclaimed Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Centre for Communication Programs, based in Baltimore (U.S.A), which is a globally respected public health communication organisation.

Our mission includes: Designing and implementing strategic communication programs that seek to influence social and individual behavioural change or maintenance;

  • Enhancing access to information and the exchange of knowledge that improves health and health care;
  • Developing programming that is evidence informed through conducting research that guides program design, evaluates impact, tests theories and advances knowledge in health communication.
  • Providing technical support and capacity building to South African partners to design, implement, monitor and evaluate strategic social and behavioural communication interventions.
  • Working in Partnership with all stakeholders and beneficiaries
